The browser extension collects nothing.

What it does
The extension adds right-click options and a small popup. When you use one, it opens a page on financialregister.com.au with what you chose already filled in — the text you highlighted, the address of the page you were on, or the address of an image you right-clicked. Nothing is sent anywhere until you press a button on that page.
What it cannot do
The extension requests one permission: contextMenus, which lets it add entries to the right-click menu. It has no permission to read the pages you visit, no access to your browsing history, no cookies, no account, and no ability to run code on any website. You can verify this yourself: open the extension’s details in Chrome and read the permission list.
It stores nothing on your device, sets no identifiers, and contains no analytics or advertising code of any kind. It never sends data anywhere except by opening a page on our own site, in a tab you can see.
What happens to what you send
If you submit a claim to the fact-check desk, the claim text is checked against web sources and a verdict is returned to you. Account numbers, card numbers and phone numbers are stripped from the text before it is processed. We record the check for rate limiting and to see which claims readers are asking about; we do not attach your name or an account to it, because you do not have one.
If you report a possible scam, what you write reaches the desk only if you tick the consent box on that form. If you do, an editor may use an anonymised version as a case file, and the desk may count it when looking for a pattern forming across reports. If you leave it unticked, nothing you wrote is stored.
Third parties
Checking a claim involves web searches and language models operated by third parties, who receive the claim text (already redacted) in order to answer it. They do not receive your identity, your IP address, or anything else about you.
