Ring your bank on the number printed on the back of your own card, right now. They can sometimes stop or recall a transfer in the first hours, and almost never after that. This page will still be here afterwards.

What’s going on?Don’t paste account numbers, BSBs, passwords, card numbers or anyone’s full name. We strip what we detect before anything is stored, but the safest field is the one you never typed it into.

Can we learn from this?

Yes — an editor may use an anonymised version of this as a case file, and the desk may count it when looking for a pattern forming across reports. We strip account numbers, emails, phone numbers and wallet addresses before it is stored, an editor rewrites it in their own words, and nothing is published as you typed it. Leave this unticked and nothing you wrote is saved at all.

What is a money mule, really?

Not a criminal mastermind. Usually a person with a normal bank account, a plausible story and no idea whose money they are holding.

Most of what we learn comes from messages that never worked. If you were offered commission for “receiving payments”, asked for your BSB by someone you met online, or sent on money that wasn’t yours — tell us, even if you ignored it.
