Anthony Albanese, the Prime Minister, said a government task force will investigate whether the unauthorised access to the Medicare portal broke the law. He said the task force will also assess whether the legal regime in place is fit for purpose in a world of emerging AI capability.

“This is an unintended access that's clear, but it definitely does raise questions about whether the law has been broken in respect of this, and obviously we will investigate all of that, what the consequences are if there has been.”

Albanese said the government will determine whether legal action needs to be taken following the investigation.
