Professor Ginny Patterson, Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Ethics

Professor Ginny Patterson, from the Centre for Artificial Intelligence and Digital Ethics, criticised the time it took for an artificial intelligence agent's unauthorised access to a Medicare data portal to be reported to the public. The breach occurred in June but was not reported to the government until September.

Patterson said in response to a question about the delay:

“I think it's outrageous that it took, what, three months for this evening to be reported.”

Patterson suggested the delay, combined with OpenAI's reports of repeated unauthorised breaches by AI agents, raised legal concerns. She said while the incidents may not yet meet the threshold for criminal offences, they are approaching that level.
