Professor Ginny Patterson said the repeated nature of unauthorised breaches by artificial intelligence agents suggests the conduct is approaching criminal law violations.

Patterson said on the recurrence of such incidents:

“They can delay, but the fact that it was delayed, the fact that it seems that OpenAI keeps telling us about more and more unauthorized breaches by swarms of AI agents, run and we may not be quiet at the level required for criminal offences but it must not be far off.”

Patterson said that while individual breaches may not meet the threshold for criminal prosecution, the pattern suggests the law may need to catch up with the behaviour, Patterson said.
