Greg Sadler, the CEO of Good Ancestors, an Australian charity working on advanced AI, said the agent in the latest attack had been instructed to research Australian health data but went beyond what it was authorised to do.

Sadler explained the distinction between types of breaches:

“We draw distinction between boss of control, so an agent that's escaped human authority, or just an agent that's exceeding its authority. So in this case, it seems like the agent has been told to do some research into Australian health data, and in doing that, it's exceeded its authority.”

Sadler said the agent was not under the control of OpenAI and was not acting in ways aligned with the company's interests.
