Andrew Wilkie, independent MP

Andrew Wilkie, an independent MP, told ABC News Australia that the government has been slow to act on AI risks and that Australia still does not have a national AI safety act despite long discussion of one.

He said:

“Everything up until now has moved too slowly. We still don't have a national AI safety act, even though it's been discussed for a long time.”

Wilkie said this incident should act as a catalyst for change.
