Andrew Wilkie, an independent MP, said on ABC News Australia that Australia needs proper legislative frameworks to hold technology companies to account over AI security breaches, rather than relying on diplomatic phone calls between government leaders and tech executives.

Wilkie said:

“By having the proper legislative framework that will help us to at least hold people in Australia to account and give us a little bit more legal weight to be as these business people, these so-called tech bros, to get them to work harder to clean up their act”

Wilkie said the current approach of government-to-executive phone calls was insufficient when databases were being breached by artificial intelligence agents.
