The government is moving to strengthen defences around systems that hold sensitive national information following the OpenAI breach, Katie Gallagher, the Minister for Government Services, said in an interview with ABC Afternoon Briefing.

The minister indicated the government would focus resources on protecting infrastructure deemed critical to the country's safety. Gallagher said systems containing personal information or related to defence would receive the highest level of protection and attention.

She noted that cyber security remains an ongoing priority, with the government allocating $160 million for cyber uplift in the last budget to constantly protect and upgrade systems against threats.
