Australian laws unable to prosecute OpenAI over government website breach, Pocock says

David Pocock told ABC Afternoon Briefing that current Australian laws would not allow prosecution of OpenAI over the breach of government websites, highlighting what he sees as a regulatory gap.
The company met with the Deputy Prime Minister after the incident without disclosing the breach, Pocock said. He argued the company must operate under proper Australian regulations to be welcomed to Australia.
It seems very unlikely in our current laws that you could actually press any charges. If any Aussie did that, I'm sure they'd probably be on their way to jail shortly. But because it's a... autonomous bots that we've created and we didn't really know or direct them to do it, that just doesn't cut it.
