Speaking to ABC Afternoon Briefing, Vanessa Teague, chief executive of Thinking Cyber Security and an adjunct professor at the University of New South Wales, said the government's consideration of action against OpenAI is premature given the limited information available about what occurred.

Teague said there is "very irony" in the public anger over the breach when details remain unclear.

The government is weighing whether to refer the matter to the Australian Federal Police after an artificial intelligence agent accessed the Medicare website without authorisation.
